Living Out The Word Daily

Jul 5, 2026    Pastor Eric Schumacher

We find ourselves standing at the intersection of hearing and doing, where Jesus challenges us through the Parable of the Four Soils to examine not just whether we're listening to God's Word, but what kind of listeners we've become. This profound teaching from Luke 8 reveals that the same seed—God's powerful, life-changing Word—produces vastly different results depending on the condition of our hearts. Are we the hardened path, trampled by pride, fear, or bitterness, where the enemy easily snatches away truth before it can take root? Or perhaps we're the shallow rocky soil, quick to respond with emotion and excitement, but lacking the depth to withstand life's inevitable trials? Maybe we're the thorny ground, where God's Word begins to grow but gets choked out by the relentless weeds of worry, the pursuit of riches, or the distraction of pleasures that compete for our attention. The invitation before us is to become good soil—hearts that are open, willing, and cooperative with what God is saying. This isn't about perfection, but about cultivating a posture that says 'yes' to God before we even know what He's asking. When we hear, retain, and persevere in living out God's Word, we don't just gain knowledge—we experience transformation that produces a hundredfold harvest in our lives and in the lives of others around us.
