Why Don't I Always Feel God?

Oct 18, 2026  •  Pastor Dan Buchert

Have you ever sat in a worship service watching others with tears streaming down their faces, hands raised, and wondered why you do not feel the same thing? This message tackles that deeply personal question head-on, and the answer might surprise you. Rather than pointing to some deficiency in us, it walks us through four specific barriers that can quietly block our ability to perceive God's presence in our lives. We explore how over-sensationalizing what a spiritual experience should look like can cause us to miss the gentle, steady ways God actually moves. We look at how a hardened heart, often the result of past disappointments or placing too much trust in imperfect people, can slowly dull our spiritual senses. We examine the powerful connection between obedience and revelation, anchored in John 14:21, where the promise is clear that God reveals himself to those who follow through on what he has already asked of them. And we confront the honest reality that unconfessed sin creates a wall between us and the closeness we long for with God. The great news woven through all of this is that God is not playing hide-and-seek with us. He is actively pursuing us with a love that knows our faults and chooses us anyway.
