4.  When it comes to making life decisions, we are often unwilling to submit to God.
   *  Even though I'm willing to submit to the men who made the rules, I'm not willing to submit to the          God who made the men who made the rules that I submit to.
Q:  Why do you think we struggle with submitting to God?  ____________________________________

*  It was this reasoning that led the wisest man in the world to write these words.
Ecclesiastes 2:10 - I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure.
Ecclesiastes 2:17 - So now I hate life because it is all so irrational; all is foolishness, chasing the wind.
Proverbs 9:8-12 -  Do not rebuke a mocker or he will hate you; rebuke a wise man and he will love you.  9 Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.  10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.  11 For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.  12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.
5.  "The fear of the Lord":  Recognition and reverence that lead to wisdom.
   *  Wisdom begins with the recognition of who God is.
Q:  List some ways that we recognize and have reverence for the Lord:  ______________________
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________
    *  Submission is not about what He asks of us, it is about Who He is.
This does not mean simply recognizing His power and knowledge.  The idea that God is big and knows everything:  that is not enough.  Wisdom begins with rightly recognizing God's position as God.  Proper recognition results in REVERENCE.
Q:  Based on that, what would your definition of submission be?  _____________________________
