Mark 4:35-38 - That day when evening came, (Jesus) said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side (of the lake).” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don't you care if we drown?”

Question: Can you relate to how the disciples feel? _______________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Possible storm sources:
 Storms from bad decisions.
 Storms from the enemy.
 Storms from a broken world.

John 16:33 - “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Romans 8:28 - And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Mark 4:36-37 - Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

2. With His presence.

Mark 4:38a - Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion…

Question: What was Jesus doing? And what does that tell us about His character? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Psalm 23:4 - Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Philippians 4: 4-7 - Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 …The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Question: Sometimes the storm continues to blow around us but internally we have peace.

Have you ever experienced that? _________________________________________________________________

James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

In storms, we want God to do a removing job. He wants to do an improving job.

Mark 4:39-40 - He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid?
Do you still have no faith?”

READ:

Omnipotence means that God is in total control of Himself and His creation. Omniscience means that He is the ultimate standard of truth and falsity, so that His ideas are always true. Omnipresence means that since God’s power and knowledge extend to all parts of His creation, He himself is present everywhere. Together they define God’s lordship, and they yield a rich understanding of creation, providence, and salvation.

Question: So how can these characteristics of God help us in the midst of storms?
