Jonah 1:1 - The word of the Lord  came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me."

Jonah 3:1 - Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time...:

1.  WE WORSHIP A GOD OF SECOND CHANCES.

Jonah 2:9 - But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the Lord ."

2.  WHAT HAS GOD CALLED YOU TO DO THAT YOU NEED TO DO NOW?

Jonah 3:3-4 - Jonah obeyed the word of the LORD and went to Nineveh. Now Nineveh was a very important city — a visit required three days. 4 On the first day, Jonah started into the city. He proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned."

  • STARTED MEANS: UNTIE OR LOOSEN

Jonah 2:8
- "Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
 
  • Idols: Prejudice and Self

3.  SOMETIMES WE ARE TIED TO THINGS THAT KEEP US FROM OBEYING GOD.

4.  GOD’S MERCY IS A LIMITED TIME OFFER.

Question:  Are there people in your life that God has placed on your heart that you are concerned about spiritually? If so, what are you doing to accomplish God’s will in their life and yours?  ____________________________________________________________________________________________

Jonah 3:5
- The Ninevites believed God. They declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.

Question:  Are there people that you don’t like that make you feel they could never come to know Christ? Or maybe you don’t want them to come to Christ?  ________________________________

Jonah 3:6-9 - When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7 Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. 9 Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."

5.  GOD SHOWS US HIS AMAZING GRACE.

Jonah 3:10 - When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion and did not bring upon them the destruction he had threatened.
